ABOUT THE ROLE
We are currently seeking a Senior Writer (Contract) to help craft the story of a new Action Fantasy anime. You will be working alongside a creative team to help bring an amazing original IP to life.
As a platform, Storygrounds is exploring new pathways for story creators and their communities to collaborate and connect. You will be a pioneer in helping to make the storytelling space more fruitful for all.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Partner with a creative team to create scripts for an original IP established by our internal team.x
- Contribute to the development of the series plot, characters, lore, and setting, and lead the creation as well as the organization of the project’s story bible.
- Compose high-quality scripts for the series from beginning to end, delivered on schedule as needed.
- Provide support and input on the artistic direction of the project to ensure that the story is best interpreted through the artwork.
- Work closely with Storygrounds internal editorial to best adhere to house style, receive, discuss, and implement feedback in a timely manner.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A deep PASSION for anime—and ideally webcomics—especially action fantasy genre series.
- Have worked on at least 1+ animation or have a demonstrable portfolio of professional script samples. While traditional film, games, webcomics, and other writing formats are acceptable—anime and animation experience is highly preferred.
- Must be available to commit to a given project for at least 8 months with potential for extension.
- Extensive knowledge of shonen and seinen genre stories, including their distinct expectations, pacing, and tropes.
- Experience writing episodic stories that balance lighthearted comedy and visceral action HIGHLY desired.
- Embodies a collaborative mindset, able to accept feedback, implement feedback, and permit flexibility on how a story is told.
- Must be able to provide clean, organized, scripts punctually.
- Team player who can communicate punctually and professionally.
- Contribute to a positive work and team environment.
- Able to attend occasional kick-off and sync-up meetings during Pacific time-zone work hours (9:00 AM - 5:00 PM).
NICE TO HAVE
- Have experience working across other genres such as slice-of-life, romance, drama, comedy, etc.
- Professional working experience on a well-known animation project.
*NOTE: This is a freelance position on a 6-12 month project. It is compensated on a milestone basis.
