Nym is at the forefront of privacy technology. With the upcoming launch of our flagship product, NymVPN, we are seeking a skilled and privacy-oriented Data Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you’ll bridge the gap between development and research, innovate methods to securely store and process privacy-sensitive data, and contribute to Nym's mission of advancing privacy-preserving technologies, not limited to NymVPN.

If you’re passionate about privacy tech, blockchain, and data engineering, we’d love to hear from you!

In Your First Month, You Might:

  • Assess and refine existing data storage solutions to ensure compliance with privacy standards.
  • Develop and implement secure, reliable, and scalable methods for managing and storing data while ensuring compliance with privacy regulations.
  • Collaborate closely with developers and researchers to align on data requirements.
  • Build and maintain data collection systems to gather, clean and analyse data from the Nym network (e.g., network data, on-chain data).
  • Explore and evaluate existing open-source frameworks and tools (e.g., for data storage, visualization, monitoring and integration) to identify the best fit for Nym’s data workflows.
  • Present initial findings and gather feedback to enhance data processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a bridge between development and research teams to support data-driven decisions.
  • Design and implement robust and secure data pipelines, storage solutions and ETL processes to collect process, and store data from various sources.
  • Ensure data privacy and security compliance in all data processes.
  • Ensure the integrity, scalability, and accessibility of data for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Implement and enforce data quality standards and governance practices to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability of data across all workflows.
  • Develop and maintain data access points to enable seamless integration and data usage by internal and external developers, adhering to best practices for security and privacy.
  • Build and maintain dashboards for presenting insights to multiple stakeholders.

Key Experience:

  • At least three years of professional experience as a Data Engineer.
  • Strong understanding of data privacy principles and frameworks, including K-anonymity.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with relational databases such as SQLite and PostgreSQL.
  • Familiarity with Elasticsearch, Redis, and tools like Grafana, Pocketbase, ClickHouse (a bonus) or similar tools.
  • Experience with Rust or a willingness to learn is advantageous.
  • Understanding of blockchain technology, working with on-chain data.
  • Excellent communication skills to present data insights visually and verbally.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a privacy-first mindset.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

What we offer you:

  • A diverse and collaborative team of 50+, interested in learning and solving problems together.
  • 6 Weeks annual leave plus national holidays.
  • Yearly learning and development allowance.
  • IT hardware package tailored to your role.
  • Remote working (with a bias towards being able to do in-person meetups periodically).
  • A competitive salary.
